I had never really protested anything in my life, now I found myself rolling out to go park shoulder to shoulder with David Riddell and others on the D.C. Beltway. The only lane we left open was to my left and to my right was Santa, to his right was Teddybear. Needless to say, I kept my driver’s window up so as to avoid any airborne objects and could still hear people beeping and waving in approval as well as some choice language from some irate liberals. I imagine they were as easily triggered as the low charge warning lights on their environment damaging electric cars. It reminded me of something Rush Limbaugh used to say, “liberals never really seem to be happy”.
I remember when we were rolling in and the direction came over the CB to move to 3 lanes wide. That meant I pulled up on Santa’s lefts side as we slowly came to a very long and deliberate stop. 55 down to 45, then a little later 35, then 25, then 15, then we stop. We had flagger cars in the rear a ¼ mile or so behind the convoy to warn traffic.
The timer was set for 30 minutes and it began to tick, slowly like in the movies. You could hear every tick of the clock in your chest, or was that my heart beating? Either way, time seemed to slow as live streamers got out of their vehicles to document the scene and I proceeded to observe many more cars passing us beeping in support rather than out of anger. The ratio seemed to be an impressive 7 out of 10 cars supporting us. Before I knew it 10 minutes had passed, and the state trooper had arrived at the rear of the group. He was directed to the front and as the officer moved deliberately through the cars. “He stopped at every single window and wave at the folks” David would go on to say in his remarks later that day.
Santa slowly climbed down from his truck, phone in hand and timer running. Their conversation took place right at my passenger window so I was able to hear almost all of it. I have video of it as well but I do not think I ever posted it online. Then the officer took David’s license and took a nice slow stroll back to his cruiser. He would return with about 6 minutes left on the timer. David told him we had 5 minutes remaining, he handed David his documents and said okay as he started walking back to his car.
The timer went off and we safely began to roll out in route to Bunker Hill. I felt good, eager to regroup with all the teams and talk about our experience.
I was with Big Ds convoy, It seemed we was there all day! Time kinda stood still for a bit, while we waited to see if the tow trucks were going to show up! We had a chance to stop on the side of the road, after our 30 minutes expired. We was single file and waving at all the patriots that had been waiting for the 30 minutes to pass also. Most were waving and honking, The others were in the tunnel! Thank you ALL for making a difference!
I remember watching this day on the live streams. With you writing about it and what was going on in your heart and mind makes it feel so much more real for me. Great Job!!
